PCB Launches SMS

The Parents Coordinating Board, in cooperation with MySchoolCares, launched the short messaging system or more popularly known as text messaging on a pilot test.  Over a hundred parents registered their cellular phones so that they can receive announcements on class suspension, meetings of the PCB, meetings of the school organizations where their children are members of and other announcements.

The Manila Archdiocesan and Parochial Schools Association (MAPSA) initially thought of the SMS during its planning sessions last May 2005. The MAPSA Commission on Information Technology is currently evaluating other SMS providers prior to awarding the project to just one provider for all the 92 members of the MAPSA. Class 1981 Marked the Completion of Feeding Program

Last April 16, 2005, 18 children beneficiaries and their parents celebrated the end of their participation in Oplan Akap Bata, a 3-month feeding program periodically sponsored by PCS AKAP ’81, Inc. It was held at the second floor of the Parish Hall of San Fernando de Dilao Parish, from 10 to 11:30 AM.

The event was witnessed by special guests Dr. Jose dela Paz, main benefactor of CCWPDI and a well-respected alumnus of Paco Catholic School, Mr. Rey A. Mones, Chairman, PCS Parents General Council and Ms. Maricel Escultura, Paco Parish Community Coordinator.

To commemorate the celebration, PCS AKAP ’81 provided each of the kids a gift bag with toys, school supplies and personal care items. The graduation from the feeding program was made more memorable as it coincided with the children’s Moving Up Day in Nursery and Kinder.

Now on its second run, the feeding program proved to be a success with 50% of the children gaining pounds. As Mr. Mones observed, the program proved to be working as evidenced by the glowing skin and general physical appearance of the children.

The Class of 1981 of Paco Catholic School recognizes that proper nutrition is integral in early childhood care and development. Thus, it launched Oplan Akap Bata in July 2003 to assist the parents from this urban poor community of Area 4, Barangay 679 in providing for the basic need of correct nutrition. Under this program, the children are fed one nutritious hot meal a day, for a period of 3 months. The participation of the parents in the entire process is vital to the success of the program as they are made responsible for preparing the food and feeding their children.
