PCSAA Honors Asperilla with Dux Award

The PCSAA board of trustees upon the nomination of Reynaldo A. Mones, chairman of the Committee on Education, Scholarships and Awards, unanimously voted last November 9 in its regular meeting, to confer upon Dr. Marianito O. Asperilla, Class 1971 and a Port Charlotte, Florida infectious diseases specialist, the Dux Award for Excellence in Medicine.

After the September 11 attack at the World Trade Center, he organized a group of 35 medical professionals in the United States into a local biowarfare response team.  He also founded the humanitarian organization ACCESS Care, a group that provides free medical services to the poor in Central America and other countries.   Once or twice a month, his clinic is open for free medical services to local indigents.  He donated a building that houses a gym where poor inner city kids in Florida can learn how to box.  He is the only Filipino to have been honored twice by 2 US presidents (Bush 1 and Bush 2).

Class 1981 Holds Medical Mission

PCS AKAP ’81, Inc. successfully conducted Oplan Tepok Bulate, a deworming program for children, on November 13, 2004, from 8:00 AM to 12:00 Noon at the 3rd floor, St. John Building of Paco Catholic School.

Around 370 children ages 3 to 12 from Area 4, Area 3 and nearby communities of San Fernando de Dilao Parish in Paco, Manila participated in the program. The kids were administered deworming medicine and vitamin A, on-site. And, to further address the causes of parasitism plus general hygiene, the children were given slippers and toothbrush, while being asked to view correct techniques in brushing teeth. Moreover, PCS AKAP ’81, Inc. provided the children with multivitamins and ferrous sulfate, depending on their health circumstances.

The event was made more significant as 11 students from the Interact Club of Paco Catholic School actively participated. They assisted in the deworming and the administration of Vitamin A to the kids, and the maintenance of peace and order. It is the objective of the Association to expose these high school students to socio-civic programs in the community with the hope that in the future they would continue with whatever programs their fellow Paconians and the members of the PCS alumni community have started.

Class 1971 Struck Gold

The members of Class 1971 held its reunion in the Philippines last  March 27, 2004 at the Elks Club in Makati City.  It was attended by 49 of its members, 2 of which flew in from the US and Canada.  The class, headed by Mr. Bobby Calanog, has been planning for a grand party to celebrate the birthday of those who will be turning 50 years old this year and next.  This is the reason why the reunion is aptly called “We Struck Gold”.

To complement the Manila "We Struck Gold" reunion, the Paco Catholic School Class 1971 Alumni of U.S.A. and Canada will be having their "Spring Fling" Reunion on May 1, 2004 at the Marina Hills Recreation Center, in Laguna Niguel, California.  All Paco Catholic School Class 1971 alumni, from both here and in the US and Canada are feverishly invited to attend. For more information, please get hold of either Ms. Irma Sabile Abello at 1-909-913-2123 or Ms. Teresa Marjes Sabocor at 1-310-347-8339. (31 March 2004)

Cultural Catholic Links with PCSAA Site

The PCSAA web site is now linked with the web site for Catholics all over the world.  The site is known as Cultural Catholic and is a good source for information on the popes of the Catholic Church [Catholic Pontiffs], nuns, schools and events and activities in Catholic schools from various places around the globe.  The picture of the original Sacred Heart Building is feature in the web site.  The following is a write up from their home page.

Cultural Catholicis for both non-practicing and practicing Roman Catholics worldwide. Whether practicing or not, we like being Catholic. We cherish our traditions and history. We are inspired and uplifted by the lives of the saints, gain solace from saying the rosary and the Stations of the Cross, and making visits. We remember bingo, Christmas bazaars, and May Processions. We remember the nuns. (14 January 2004)
